The Pathway
(Pastor Errol Joseph)

Scripture reading: Proverbs 4:18-19– But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Which is of greater value: the destination or the journey? The journey is as important as the destination especially with our walk with God. There are two groups of people that are  on this journey, the righteous and the wicked. The pathway of the two is different as well as the destination.

There are:
Two groups of people – The righteous and the wicked both of which are justified by their position through their condition, conduct, character, decisions etc.
Two paths of living – Righteous path and wicked path.
Two outcomes – The righteous outcome is the full light of day and the wicked outcome is deep darkness and they stumble.

When there is no difference between us and the world, God is not glorified and our hearts become hardened. Some things that differentiate us from the world is our way of showing love, how we speak, how we carry about ourselves and the decisions that we make etc.
The only way we can be transformed is through God’s presence and that is what distinguishes us. Exodus 33:152Corinthians 3:18

If we walk faithfully with God:

  • The place we find ourselves right now is the exact place where God desires us to be, Geographical, life situation, personal situation etc. God is taking us on a journey and some places may be uncomfortable but it is the exact place where God wants us to be.
  • Every place will be a place of transition. When we find ourselves moving from place to place, each step is a place of constant learning and movement unto the next. It is a process from the full light of dawn to the full light of day. All we have learnt has prepared us for where we are right now.
  • Every place we find ourselves is a preparation for the next place and could lead to the central task of our life which is our ultimate purpose.
  • The future ahead will be bright. It goes brighter and brighter . The dawn announces a new day that is only just the beginning.
  • If we have gone off track, new days mean we can get back in line and get back on the right track.

The Implications

  1. Learn to appreciate every place to which God takes you or locates you. There is a purpose for it and God never does anything that has no purpose.
  2. Make the most of every place where you are located. God has led and brought you to that place and gets you ready for that place, job, home, life etc. Find out what God wants to teach you and learn from the experience.
  3. Allow God to deposit whatever He needs  into our lives. He is building something in us.
  4. Be open to God – directed change when He is ready to move us to somewhere else.
  5. Don’t be too quick to move from your present location until God says to.
  6. Leave location better than you found it. Ensure you leave the people you meet more whole than when you found them.

The path of the righteous is God – ordained. He determines the times and places. He ordains our lives with divine purpose. We must trust in God, flow with Him and allow Him to do what He wants with us. Whatever God is doing is good and He took us there because there is something that He is up to.
